Thomas showed some slides to introduce the evening’s purpose, and explained some areas that were examples of collaboration between the many groups represented.  He then asked people to speak to the group on the organization they represented.

Lynn Spearing gave some insight into the school motto, “small school relationships, big school opportunity.”  She highlighted some of the “kudos” the school has received, including U S News and World report that recognized Ellsworth as a top Class D school.

This year is a first for something called “Lancer Leap” to offer the students some extra activities, such as a show choir, writing, and special things since few electives are available.  This will take place in May, and on June 3 there will be culminating activity.

Ron Boss spoke about the hand-in hand working relationship between the village and the township.  The new community park with the pavilion represents a lot of cooperation.  The archery range is highly acclaimed, along with a licensed instructor.  A grant for supplies is anticipated.

Mary Faculak, representing the Breezeway task force, invited all to join any meetings…the 4th Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m.  The location varies, but all information is on www. Ridethebreezeway.com. The Breezeway has been featured a couple of times on tv programs, and received the Maniac of the Year Award.  On May 27 & 28, there will be a 26 mile Garage Sale on the Breezeway.

Erin Nickel highlighted what is planned for the “Ellebration,” which will replace the Pig Roast, and is moved to the last weekend of June, June 30 – July 3.  Fireworks will be held on that weekend, as well as many of the “regular” Pig Roast activities.

Rick Diebold commented about the culture of community and collaboration that exists between so many groups in this area.  He represented NLEA, Char-Em ISD, as well as a few other boards.

Dave Muladore, for the Planning Commission, reminded the group of the upcoming Public Hearings that will be held on April 19, and April 25.  Also, as part of the PC’s regular meeting time, the review of the Master Plan continues.  He reminded the audience that the commission appreciates knowing what people want from the Zoning Ordinance.

Shirley Tornga invited everyone to the opening date of the Historical Society, April 26th, at 6 p.m. for a potluck.  She said they were always interested in new members, and highlighted some of the things available there, including a number of family trees.

Heidi Shaffer from the Antrim Conservation District felt that it was awesome to see how many groups were working together in the Township.  The phragmites stands in Banks Township have been identified, and work is progressing on eradicating them from the shore line.  May 7 will be the Household Hazardous Waste collection.  The tree sale is currently happening, and some extra trees may be available next week.  June is the scheduled Native Plant Sale.

Featured speaker State Representative Greg MacMaster was introduced by Supervisor Thomas Mann.  Greg complimented the group on the amazing cooperation and collaboration that is happening here.  The mind set to find answers and solutions is great.  Lansing needs to learn that cooperation, and remember what they were elected or appointed to do.  He spoke about what some of his goals as a “freshman” representative are, one of which is to try to decrease a top-heavy government, and to institute some accountability in government spending.
